Single-Paragraph Essay
"...migration is inevitable, people will leave and come for money or hope, but what is confusing the world is why people will leave just to leave"(Unknown). Migration is a very common thing people and animals did it, and still do. The big questions are why do people migrate and what impact does migration have? Lee's push-pulls migration theory helps explain this. (To see the theory click on the "Expansion, Manifest Destiny, Push-Pull Theory" tab above. Migration can be caused for an uncertain amount of reasons. Nowadays, it is often for job offers that are in different countries or people looking to leave for a better life. But, migration is not just a modern thing, it was quite big in the 1800’s. Irish, German, Scandinavians, and Chinese were the largest amount of immigrants to come into the region during the time. This impacted the Native Americans and Mexicans (Californios) that lived in the western region during the time. Native Americans and Mexicans were treated brutally and had acres of lands stolen from them. It also impacted the land. There was not enough room for everyone to suddenly shift and move to the West. Acres of land had to be shared between multiple families at once, houses had to be downsized because of the sudden decrease of room. The Mexicans and Native Americans were the ones who lost the most land which is quite upsetting considering that this land that was being taken from them, was rightfully theirs in the beginning.
