*Who were the Mountain Men?
The Mountain Men were fur trappers they caught animals such as beavers and sea otters for their pelts. These fur trappers were hard men they frequently spent weeks alone in the mountains, traveling on foot and by canoe, camping in makeshift shelters, scavenging for food, and with only a rifle for protection against attacks from grizzly bears. Mountain men came from all backgrounds and from all over the globe: there were French, Russian, English, and American trappers as well as many Native Americans and some African Americans.
